What better time of year than spring to get outside and enjoy the beauty of Berks County! Berks County parks have so much to offer residents and visitors of all ages. Here are a few of the many outstanding parks and outdoor spaces that are awaiting your exploration.
Allegheny Aqueduct Historical Park and Beidler House
1130 Old River Rd Gibralter, PA 19606 | (610) 372-8939
A mill built on Allegheny Creek in 1766 started Conrad Beidler's manufacturing enterprise. A home was constructed in 1783, the Beidler House, for the mill operator's residence. Among Pittsburgh’s more remarkable structures is the Allegheny Aqueduct, which was constructed in 1824. Because it did not fit into the Schuylkill Canal, the massive 112 foot structure was restored and retained and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Reading, PA 19611
Angelica Creek Park and KenGrill Recreation Center are connected by a one-mile trail. Watch out for wildlife along the trail in Reading’s suburbs; the park contains an extensive wetlands habitat that offers great birdwatching opportunities. A Conservancy upgrade allows the Angelica Creek Trail to connect to the Schuylkill River Trail, which will be nearly 130 miles long when completed.
230 Angora Rd Reading, PA 19606 | (610) 372-8939
The Antietam Lake is surrounded by 665 acres of park land, providing a beautiful, serene area for nature-based recreation. The Antietam Lake also has a waterfall flowing over a 60-foot-high solid rock near Antietam Creek. At Antietam Lake Park you can explore a patchwork of 12 miles of trails that connect each other.
Blue Marsh Lake Recreation Area
1268 Palisades Dr Leesport, PA 19533 | (610) 376-6337
Blue Marsh Lake is a recreational destination north of Reading, Pennsylvania, offering 36 miles of trails with 1,147 acres of water for boating and fishing, along with 5000 acres of land. The trail system is part of the Greater Reading Trail System, and its trails are ideal for hiking, bike riding, horseback riding, and horseback riding. The Visitor Center can be found directly above the dam tower for spectacular views of the lake.
341 Sousley Rd Lenhartsville, PA 19534 | (610) 756-6366
You'll discover an absolutely unique outdoor adventure near Lenhartsville, Pennsylvania's Americana Region, by exploring Blue Rocks. Its origin still remains unclear, but it's a spectacular ribbon of rock over a mile long. Geologists have studied a small part of the Tuscarora quartzite field, but we still do not know the reason why so much of it came together in one location. The Blue Rocks boulder field is close to The Pinnacle, the highest look-out point on the Appalachian Trail.
